Avalanche’s Cale Makar selected as ‘NHL 24’ cover athlete

Colorado Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar will be the cover athlete of “NHL 24,” EA Sports revealed Monday. Here’s what you need to know:

Makar has been a Norris Trophy finalist for the league’s top defenseman each of the past three seasons, winning the award in 2021-22 with a 28-goal, 86-point campaign.
The 24-year-old becomes the first Avalanche player to grace the cover since Joe Sakic in “NHL 2004” and the first defenseman selected since P.K. Subban in “NHL 19.”
