Jets prospect Ville Heinola expected to miss 2-3 months after fracturing left ankle

Rick Bowness went from raving about Ville Heinola’s play at Winnipeg Jets camp Thursday morning to saying “It’s not a short-term injury” Thursday night. Now the news is official: Heinola will miss between eight and 12 weeks with a fractured left ankle after colliding awkwardly with Ottawa Senators defenseman Erik Brannstrom on Thursday in Winnipeg.
Heinola goes from the precipice of winning a job at camp to the injured reserve for 70 days of the 192 in the NHL season and will return home to be with his family as he heals. It’s also possible he will have surgery to…
