Pittsburgh Penguins forward Jake Guentzel is expected to miss “around five games” at the start of the 2023-24 season after undergoing right ankle surgery last week, president of hockey operations and general manager Kyle Dubas said Monday. Here’s what you need to know:
The team initially said that Guentzel would be re-evaluated in 12 weeks after having the procedure last Wednesday.
The 2023-24 NHL season opens on Oct. 10. The Penguins play the Chicago Blackhawks, Washington Capitals, Calgary Flames, Detroit Red Wings and St. Louis Blues to open the year.
