LOS ANGELES — The Colorado Avalanche signed defenseman Devon Toews to a seven-year contract extension, the team announced Friday. The deal carries an average annual value of $7.25 million, a person briefed on the matter confirmed.
Toews, now an established top-pair defenseman, almost certainly could have gotten a higher AAV contract had he gone to the open market next summer. But he wanted to stay in Colorado, and this deal gives him long-term security.
